Stray Cats
Notice
Due to COVID-19, we are no longer accepting stray cats or kittens. Anyone can put a community cat through our Community Cat Program for $15 where they will be altered, vaccinated, and allowed to return to their community.
Community Cat Program
In 2012 we embarked on a program that would help us not only save lives, but gradually reduce the cat population in the county. This program is what we call the Community Cat Program (CCP), and it has been a huge success!
Important notice: our Community Cat Program is suspended until further notice.
Cost
It is a service to anyone in the unincorporated area of the county and the City of Lakeport. If you are willing to bring us the community's stray cats, we will spay/neuter them, vaccinate them, and notch the ear, all for $15. All we ask of you (the community) is that you either return it where you found it, find it a new home, or keep it.
Statistics
When the program started, we have been doing an average of 1000 cat surgeries every year since the inception, and it's beginning to show results. Neighborhoods that were once over run with cats are starting to clear up. People and staff are reporting they see fewer cats around today than they did 3 years ago.
So the cat population is beginning to slow down AND our euthanasia rates have significantly improved since we no longer have to euthanize them. As sad as it is, only 20% of the cats taken into a shelter are ever released alive. And this is a national average, not just for our facility.
Appointments
Space is limited and the appointments fill quickly. We strongly suggest that anyone who is interested call us as soon as possible to request an appointment.
If you want more information, or would like to schedule an appointment to have a community cat altered, please call our office at 707-263-0278, thank you.
