Inmate Release Information

The booking process can take several hours depending on the workload in booking. Persons who have been arrested and are intoxicated by drugs or alcohol will remain in custody and will not be released until such time that they are sober. This can take up to 12 hrs or more. Inmates who have been released by the court will be released from jail as soon as possible after returning from court. Information relating to the transportation of inmates to state prison or any other institution will not be released.

Sending Mail

The mailing address for the Lake County Jail is

All mail must be mailed through the U.S. Postal service. No mail will be forwarded to inmates released from the facility. Incoming mail must include the sender’s name, a complete return address, and the inmate’s full name with the facility address.

Books, Newspapers, Magazines

Books, newspapers or magazines must be mailed directly from the publisher. Only soft cover books are accepted into the facility.

Sending Money

Only cashiers checks or money orders will be accepted for the inmate’s books to be credited. Currency will not be accepted by mail. Money orders must include the sender’s name and address, and be signed by the sender on the front of the money order.

Items Not Permitted

In order to prevent contraband from getting into the facility, mail consisting of, or containing, any of the following will not be accepted. Any mail containing the following will either be returned to sender or placed in the inmate’s property:

Polaroid photographs;
Photos larger than the normal 8X10;
Pornographic material;
Envelopes, stamps and stickers;
Writing paper;
Perfume scented letters;
Letters marked with lipstick;
Bodily fluids;
Anything written with a felt marker, glitter pen, or crayon;
Any other item determined to be contraband by facility staff.

Telephone Information

We do not take messages or pass messages to inmates. Inmates generally have access to telephones between the hours of 8:00 AM to 11:30PM unless they are locked down.
